The blue-leaved shrub with tubular yellow flowers that grows on any southern rubble, flowering all year. South American, invasive, and deadly if the leaves are mistaken for a vegetable.

How to tell it
Oval, blue-green, waxy hairless leaves. Long tubular yellow flowers, hanging. A tall, gangly shrub, often alone on abandoned ground.
What it is confused with
No dangerous lookalikes known in the Iberian Peninsula.
What it is for
None. It contains anabasine, a paralysing alkaloid, and there have been deaths in the Peninsula from confusing the leaves with wild spinach or chard.

An invasive alien species in Portugal. Do not plant or propagate it.
