The pink dianthus that emerges from rock crevices in high summer, when the sierra is already dry. It is endemic to the Peninsula and one of the toughest flowers there is: it lives where there is no soil at all.

How to tell it
A dense tuft of narrow stiff grass-like leaves growing out of rock. Pink flowers with fringed petal tips, as if cut with scissors. A sweet scent at the end of the day.
What it is confused with
No dangerous lookalikes known in the Iberian Peninsula.

None to encourage. It is an Iberian endemic and a plant for photographs, not for picking.
