How to tell it
The whole plant covered in dense soft white hair, including stem and bracts. Elongated leaves with a wavy or shallowly cut edge. Yellow heads in groups at the top, the bracts visibly woolly. It grows almost always on gravel, coarse sand or dry riverbed.
What it is confused with
No dangerous lookalikes known in the Iberian Peninsula.
What it is for
No use. It indicates a flood bed: where it grows, water has passed with force, even if it is dry today. That is useful information when choosing where to camp.
